Did I have grand plans to clean the apartment the day before? Oh, 100%. Did it actually happen? Nope, not even close. This morning, I grabbed scissors to cut a price tag off some slippers without thinking. I swear, that’s one of those “bad luck” moves you’re not supposed to do on New Year’s Day. Also, you’re not supposed to clean or throw things out, but hey, it’s trash day, and we’re not missing that. So basically, I’m breaking all the rules—and I’m kind of here for it.
On the bright side, I did manage to assemble our “Candy Tray of Togetherness,” which the kiddo was absolutely over the moon about. Laffy Taffy, Starburst, and all his other favorite sugary treats made an appearance, and of course, I threw in some no-sugar bars for me and the husband. It’s a small victory, but a victory nonetheless!
It’s been a pretty chill day overall, though. We had a cozy dinner with my folks, and my mom whipped up her famous vegetarian dish with glass noodles, dried fungus, shiitake mushrooms, and lotus root. I don’t even know how she makes it taste so good, but it’s always a hit.
Looking forward to the Year of the Snake—though let’s be honest, the world may be burning, but I’ll take the little moments of joy. Here’s to more candy, less stress, and embracing all the traditions (or, in my case, not). Happy New Year!
