The Metropolitan Planning Area Planning Council selected nine artists and artist teams to create posters, videos, postcards, public art, comic strips, and other accessible artworks to communicate about the pandemic with BIPOC and underserved communities.

For my series, I chose the Cantonese / Hong Kong slang 加油! Add Oil! to be the rallying cry for the community to get their vaccine and to stay safe. Being an advocate for my family and friends during the initial vaccine roll-out opened up my eyes to how communities were being under served. In creating these images, I wanted to connect to the Chinese immigrant community in getting the information needed in a familiar and personal voice.

Feel free to download and share the images.

“Auntie, let’s have a shrimp dumpling! Get the vaccine!”
